Happy Fathers Day

I would like to wish everyone a Happy Fathers Day. Hopefully you have a father or father figure in your life to share the day with or are one yourself. My day consisted of taking my daughter Peri to see “Up” (or at least one hour of it till she had had enough) and driving my family and parents up to Westchester in the rain to see my brothers’ family. I’ve been told on more than one occasion that Father’s Day is a good time to reflect on those male heroes in our life, and while driving up to Scarsdale in the rain is hardly heroic, I kind of like the concept of taking one day out of the year to elevate the status of fatherhood. Hero Status, yes. But how ’bout SUPERHERO STATUS!!!! (echo, echo, echo)

My old high school production teacher turned me on to this online superhero maker website www.cpbintegrated.com/theherofactory. I designed an incarnation for myself (believe me, this is the closest guy to myself I could come up with, minus the chiseled biceps and Louvre-statue abs) and showed it to my daughter. She said, “That’s great, Daddy, now make one of me!!!” Anyway, I like the suite I’m wearing and the length of my hair, but I’m still deciding on my super power. I know! Adding more hours to the day!myhero11

Adam on Facebook

Despite all efforts to be defiant, Adam has jumped on the Facebook bandwagon. Go ahead, friend Adam. “Just don’t write on my wall about how you’re thinking of going to the mall or taking a nap. Just go to the mall and take your nap already! By the time you finish typing all that you could have done both!” When you’re searching for Adam, keep this in mind: There are lots of Adam Shandlers on Facebook, but only one Adam D. Shandler.

Happy ChrismaKwanzaKahEid

In other words, Happy Holidays and a Safe and Prosperous New Year to all our visitors. Keep checking back in 2009 for the latest news about Adam’s exploits!

Lancer Nation Celebrates!

Adam would like to congratulate the Livingston (N.J.) High School football team for capturing its first-ever championship last Saturday at Giants Stadium. Adam’s alma mater defeated Hackensack 28-8 to win the North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 title. Nice job, men. Says Adam, “Now I just need the Jets to win a Super Bowl and I can die in peace.”

Coaching Ira - The Movie..?

Adam has partnered with an independent film company in Dallas and is discussing the possibility of turning Coaching Ira into a feature film. “We’ll probably take it in a more family direction than the book,” says Adam. “The book version has some pretty salty languague and scenes that are borderline PG-13.  I’m doing some script-revision now to make the dialogue and content more palatable to all audiences.”

As with most indy films, Coaching Ira would rely on angel funding or one or two major investors. If you’d like more information or are interested in contributing to the film’s funding contact Adam through this site.

Six-Year Anniversary of “Coaching Ira”

Coaching Ira has been available for public consumption for over six years now and readers are still interested in this quirky, “Jewish Basketball Novel.” Contact Adam to organize a book talk or order books directly from the author. (Trust me, you’ll get a nice discount.)

Happy Father’s Day!

Adam would like to wish all dads, dads-to-be, or just guys known as Big Daddies a Happy and Enjoyable Father’s Day!

SCBWI Conference, Ho!

Adam hits the SCBWI conference circuit again, gobbling up knowledge about the tough-to-crack children’s lit market. On Saturday, June 7th, Adam will be attendance at the New Jersey chapter’s annual conference at the Princeton Theological Seminary. Not that it’s going to get Biblical or anything…

Back to Fall Philly

Adam had such a good time at last year’s SCBWI conference in Eastern Pennsylvania, that he’s decided to go back! The conference will return to the Whitford Country Club in Exton, PA, and will take place on Saturday, September 29. If you’re interested in children’s writing or illustrating, visit www.scbwiepa.org.

Ira In Sunny FLA

No Ira hasn’t retired. But you can pick up a copy of Coaching Ira in Boca Raton, Florida. Visit Cohen’s Judaica, 8903 Glade Road, or call the store at 561-488-2028 to reserve your copy. Tell them Adam sent you and you’ll get…well, you’ll get a blank stare and “thanks for shopping!”

  • Welcome!

This is the official website of Adam D. Shandler -- author, sportswriter and part-time stand-up philosopher. (So hard to find good philosophy gigs these days.) That navigation bar over to the left pretty much tells you where to go, but keep checking back for news about future book signings and projects - or subscribe to my feed.
